Bosnian cardboard revolution
27 July 2024
Bosnia is widely known for its corrupt politics, and many young people are asking themselves, "How can you make politicians hear what they don't want to?" A couple of young activists from Tuzla started writing their demands on pieces of cardboard and are now at the frontline against corruption and environmental exploitation in the north of BiH. In 2021, they protested for proper equipment in Tuzla's hospital for breast cancer screenings. Recently, they took action against the exploitation of the waters of Prokoško Lake and against Serbia's decision to allow the Rio Tinto company to mine lithium in the Jadar Valley. This last fight resulted in Nedin Musić, one of the activists of Karton Revolucija, being banned from entering Serbia.

Often accused of seeking popularity, the association has led campaigns in rural and peripheral areas of Bosnia where services are simply nonexistent and no accountability is expected from institutions. |
Welcome to The European Correspondent
Europe lacks true European media: in Germany alone, there are more media devoted exclusively to football than news outlets specialising on Europe. The established players mainly focus on Brussels and European institutions. The European Correspondent aims to change that. We cover the whole of Europe and write for a community of citizens who want to look beyond their own national borders. Without European journalism, there is no European civil society.
