A surprising Greek videogame success story

26 November 2024

A 34-year-old video game producer from a small Greek city has created video games that gamers buy worldwide. With his videogame "Shore" going viral in the global gaming community, selling over 80,000 copies, and receiving 25 million views on social media, his success has surpassed all expectations. A combination of survival horror and adventure exploration, the game is set on a secluded island where the main character looks for his daughter, who has gone missing.

In Greece, video game publishers are a relatively new phenomenon, as they usually struggle with bureaucracy and taxes. Industry insiders claim that a framework of incentives and process simplification is necessary for the industry's continued growth and the establishment of new publishing businesses.

Welcome to The European Correspondent

Europe lacks true European media: in Germany alone, there are more media devoted exclusively to football than news outlets specialising on Europe. The established players mainly focus on Brussels and European institutions. The European Correspondent aims to change that. We cover the whole of Europe and write for a community of citizens who want to look beyond their own national borders. Without European journalism, there is no European civil society.
