The European Correspondent is looking for:

Newsroom coordinator (80%, internship)

About the role

As newsroom coordinator, you’ll work closely with the editor-in-chief and support the entire editorial team in keeping our newsroom running smoothly. From planning coverage and tracking projects to optimising workflows and connecting team members, you’ll play a key behind-the-scenes role in making sure everything runs efficiently – and that we stay focused on telling the most important stories across Europe.

This is a flexible, full-time, paid internship and a great opportunity for someone interested in newsroom management, editorial coordination, and cross-border journalism.

What you'll be doing

  • Support the editor-in-chief in managing day-to-day newsroom operations

  • Help maintain our editorial calendar and ensure upcoming events are reflected in our coverage plans

  • Facilitate collaboration across the editorial team, including freelancers and correspondents across Europe

  • Contribute to the organisation of special projects and editorial initiatives

  • Identify and implement improvements in editorial workflows and planning systems

  • Help prepare internal updates and assist with newsroom documentation

What we're looking for

  • You’re highly organised and detail-oriented, with a proactive mindset

  • You enjoy keeping track of multiple projects and making sure nothing falls through the cracks

  • You have strong communication skills and enjoy working with others

  • You're naturally curious about what connects and divides people across Europe.

  • You have excellent English skills; additional European languages are a plus.

  • You have a collaborative mindset – we’re building something together.

  • You take ownership of your work and thrive when given responsibility – we’re looking for people who want to help shape our journalism and organisation.

What we offer

  • Payment: €1000

  • Flexible, remote-first work culture based on trust and outcomes.

  • A say in shaping an independent media start-up from the ground up.

  • Significant potential to grow with the organisation as we expand fast.

  • Access to a growing European network of journalists and content creators

  • A mission-driven team that values openness and experimentation.

  • Location: Brussels (office and home office)

  • Starting date: 1 August 2025
