The European Correspondent is a non-profit European media organisation. We bring Europe’s most relevant stories to around 70,000 citizens from all over the continent to build a European public discourse.
Founded in 2022, we're now significantly expanding our newsroom and organisation and are looking for a passionate IT specialist to join our team.
Head of infrastructure (50%-75%)
About the role
As head of IT-infrastructure, you’re in charge of the technological infrastructure our newsroom and organisation run on.
What you'll be doing
You’re planning, coordinating and building the ways our audience can enjoy and interact with our journalism online – from the front page, to the AI-narrated audio version, to our newsletters.
Maintain our CMS and other tools used in the production of our journalism
Help bring The European Correspondent to six new languages
Coordinate programmers on special projects
What we're looking for
You are a registered freelancer in a European Union country.
You take ownership of your position and thrive when given responsibility – we’re looking for people who want to help shape our journalism and organisation long-term.
You’re an all-rounder who can think in products and workflows. You thrive even under the resource constraints of a new organisation like ours.
Experience with modern web technologies, including TypeScript, Nuxt, Hono, Cloudflare Workers, and Git version control, would be highly advantageous for this role.
Experience with or willingness to lead small technical teams or coordinate with external developers, interns, or assistants.
You have a passion for journalism and building communities.
You have excellent English skills; additional European languages are a plus.
BONUS: You have worked at a non-profit organisation before or built your own project.
