The European Correspondent is looking for:

Two EU correspondents (ten days/month each)

About the role

As EU correspondent, you’ll cover EU institutions, decisions and policies – and show how they impact citizens across Europe. You’ll be part of a Europe-wide editorial team and help shape how we tell Europe's stories that matter.

What you'll be doing

  • Report on EU policy and political developments from Brussels (or remotely).

  • Pitch and write original stories that break down complex decisions into engaging journalism.

  • Cover both high-level negotiations and under-reported EU initiatives.

  • Translate institutional language into stories that matter to readers’ everyday lives.

  • Collaborate with editors and correspondents to connect EU developments with national perspectives.

  • Write around 2-3 stories per week, from shorter updates to more complex analysis.

What we're looking for

  • You have a strong understanding of EU institutions and how they shape policy

  • You know how to explain complex political and legislative processes clearly

  • You've been reporting on politics, policy or European affairs before, and bring a network within Brussels institution that you can access.

  • You're naturally curious about what connects and divides people across Europe.

  • You have excellent English skills; additional European languages are a plus.

  • You have a collaborative mindset – we’re building something together.

  • You take ownership of your work and thrive when given responsibility – we’re looking for people who want to help shape our journalism and organisation.

  • You're a registered freelancer in a European Union country.

What we offer

  • Payment range: €1200-€1800, depending on where you live

  • Flexible, remote-first work culture based on trust and outcomes.

  • A say in shaping an independent media start-up from the ground up.

  • Significant potential to grow with the organisation as we expand fast.

  • Access to a growing European network of journalists and content creators

  • A mission-driven team that values openness and experimentation.

  • Location: Brussels (both our office and home office)

  • Starting date: 1 August 2025Does this sound interesting to you? We would love to hear from you. Also, don’t hesitate to ask us if you have any questions.
