What you can expect from us

Next weekday, you'll receive your first edition of The European Correspondent. It’s the work of more than a dozen correspondents, editors, and fact-checkers from all corners of the continent. Their goal: to help you understand how what’s happening in Europe affects your life.

From migration to AI, from the climate crisis to Russia’s war in Ukraine, Europe’s action or inaction will define the future. We write about the big shifts, the patterns and mechanisms that determine how the world around you is changing.

The EU is affecting every aspect of our daily lives, but it’s hiding behind this unique kind of boring complexity that prevents the public from actually understanding and caring. Our correspondents are your watchdogs of the European Union, and they break down what’s happening.

And sometimes stories from the other end of Europe are so delightful that it would be a shame not to cover them. For example, read about how Turkish soap operas conquered the Balkans here.

We’re not chasing breaking news. We want to bring you clarity. And a little bit of hope – the world is chaotic and destructive, yes. But there are so many passionate people whose ideas make a better future, and we want to show them to you.

And there is one last thing you should know about us: We’re a not-for-profit organisation.

We work for the public, not for shareholders. That’s why you can read us, whether your wallet is full or empty. If you can afford it, please support our journalists today!

The European Correspondent only exists because hundreds of strangers from around the continent make it possible with their support.

When you get your first edition, let us know what you think: Whenever you have feedback, complaints or ideas for us, send an email to [email protected] or reply directly to the newsletter – we really read them all.

Stay curious,
